It’s not that Westerners aren’t USED to it, because plenty of cartoons have them, especially ones from Disney and Warner Bros. It’s just that cartoons for adults aren’t a real market here because America favors live-action, which Japan can’t afford to do unless if it’s a drama/comedy/talk show or something that doesn’t really require expensive visual and practical effects.
@MovieTheaterLad Yeah, all those disney movies where everything works out. His dad dies in the lion king. Fortunately, in an emotional plot twist he still be comes king woot woot. Other disney movies are for the most part softer still on the tragedy and adversity. not to mention an almost complete lack of (moral) ambiguity or a real sense of the realities of death loss and war.

Andrew should do a Zeta Gundam cover album next. I would like to hear him sing the Neil Sedaka covers. Or at least someone who won’t take the original Japanese lyrics, throw them away, and ad-lib the whole thing.

@pakyabekasasasikptm You have no idea how hard it is here in Eglish speeking nations to express our love for anime and gundam…. most people here HATE anime and gundam….. so this song though gives us here hope that the anime industry is starting to be accepted here.

@Mortskcab yeah i dont see why NA people dont like gundam that much. i guess one of the main problems may be the difference it has from north american cartoons/movies where is a clear cut good guy and bad guy, where as in gundam both sides are doing what they think is good.
@BringerOfD Because North America and Europe is Star Wars and Star Trek country… Gundam is too foreign for most people

@BringerOfD The only time I’ve seen Gundam on American TV it’s been G Gundam and Gundam Wing which are terrible. So of course people are going to hate it.
@gswanson that is a good point which also fits well with my theory since both those series have a clear “i am the good guy” type of character and the “i am evil har har har!” types same with seed/destiny which were aired in NA i take it 00 will too within the next year or so.
so the series they NEED to air are the friggin ones from UC universe, you know Zakus and doms and RX79s GMs, balls! the good stuff. More trained soldiers, less super talented emo kids.
Man, I can just see in my mind Amuro struggling to get the RX-78-2 up for the first time… awesome!
