Anime/TV Series Like Gundam Wing?

Gundam is an anime series where people control humanoid looking robots. There was another TV series like this. Instead of humanoid machines, the machines were in an animal form, yet still controlled by actual humans. And, of course, in both series, the machines-controlled-by-humans fought each other. I can’t find the animal-machine TV series. I don’t know if it’s a play off of the Gundam Series, or not. Does anyone know what i’m talking about?
