Do you have to watch Mobile Suit Gundam to understand Mobile Suit Gundam 00 ?

I want to watch the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam 00, but I’m not really that interested in its parent story Mobile Suit Gundam. Do I have to watch Mobile Suit Gundam to understand Mobile Suit Gundam 00?

I never really liked other Gundam series, but I am totally sucked into Gundam 00. I watched Gundam 00 & can grasp into the anime.
Don’t worry, just watch Gundam 00. You’ll get the story if you’re into it. No need to watch MBG :]
No you don’t. Mobile Suit Gundam 00 was my first Gundam series.

No you don’t have to,mobile suit gundam(also called gundam 0079) is set in the UC (Universal Century) timeline and gundam 00 is set in a AU(Alt. Univerise) timeline.So go ahead and watch gundam 00,it’s a great gundam series and alot better than gundam seed.
