How does Gundam Wing relate to G Gundam?

Which comes first and how do they fit together? do any characters carry over in any way? it seems that G gundam would take place after Gundam wing but i don’t know. I just finished gundam wing and am about to start G Gundam. some history would be nice.

It doesn’t. They are taking place in different universe and have no relation whatsoever (other than there are gundams and other giant robot fighting).
