My loyalty to Optimus Prime is being put to the test!?
***-->I’ve loved Optimus Prime from Transformers for a very long time. I look up to him as a role model & a father-figure. I admire everything about him & always try to follow in his teachings of life, compassion & knowing right from wrong.
However, in the Transformers 2007 movie, there is a scene that I personally find VERY disturbing. In the scene where Bumblebee, Sam & Mikaela are being brutally-captured by Sector 7 at Hoover Dam, Optimus actually turns his back on Bumblebee, explaining that there’s no way to free Bumblebee without harming the humans & to let them leave. I found it DEEPLY disturbing that Optimus was actually willing to sacrifice Bumblebee, one of his own people, just to spare a few humans. I understand his teachings that freedom is the right of all sentient beings, that it’s wrong to kill, etc, but there are up to 6 billions humans in the world & only a few Autobots.
The Autobots are on the verge of extinction, yet Optimus was still willing to sacrifice Bumblebee to spare a few humans. They were TORTURING Bumblebee, for God‘s Sake, & yet he spared them! I know it’s only a movie, but this scene has really made me question my trust & faith in my role model, Optimus Prime & I’m feeling very upset right now. I can’t help but wonder, if it was me being captured instead of Bumblebee, would he abandon me too? I would expect a Decepticon to abandon their own kind, but Optimus Prime? If I’d been in the movie & was friends with them, I would be screaming & crying at Optimus, shouting a whole lot of curse words at him & telling him to stay away from me!
Can anyone please GENUINELY explain to me why Optimus didn’t at least try to help Bumblebee? He didn’t have to kill anyone, he could have just pulled Bumblebee out of there or something?
How could Sam, Mikaela & especially Bumblebee forgive Optimus for abandoning them? I just don’t understand & I’d like someone who does understand to please tell me.
It’s all about the bigger picture. They needed to get the location of the All Spark and not let the Deceptacons get it, because if they did then the entire human race would be DESTROYED! He needed the glasses, and if he stopped to help Bumblebee, he might have been caught as well, and they would all be in trouble. Anyways, he probably knew that Sam wouldn’t just let them take Bumblebee and completely forget about him.
hard to answer this……but im guessing that he knew they would not kill bumblebee or seriously injure him.
And another reason is that if he killed just a ‘few’ humans , the entire army would be hunting them aswell , which would mean the auto-bots would be fighting the deceptacons + humans , when they could fight along side the humans.
His position was =
Leave a strong team member – show that your no threat to humans
or
Get his team member back , injure a few of his men , kill a few humans , start a 3 way war…
glad to see someone as enthusiastic a/b the transformers as i am. to my understanding this movie was really based on the newer comics more than the actual cartoon series of the 80′s we’re used too. but if you really look back at those times. many an auto bot risked their lives to save earth and humans from the destruction of the decepticons. sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good. take the story of abraham, he was willing to sacrifice his son b/c God told him to do so, and in the end God gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead b/c of abraham’s obedience. if he had helped bumblebee, the situation could’ve turned worse. sometimes you have to willing to give something/someone up so that better things happen/come along. there are more autobots, just not on earth. i know it’s not the best source of accuracy but if you go to wikipedia and put in tranformers it gives you the whole history and of both the series, the sequels, the new animated show, plus comparisons to both the shows and comics and the movie. it’s really cool. i spent like hrs reading it. maybe it will answer your question better.
