what anime show was on cartoon networkk in the late 90's besides gundam wing and dragon ball z on toonami?

The show was about an alien race that were giants that had green robots that where circular at the top and had two legs. The other people on earth had airplanes that turned into giant robots and they were fighting eachother. it was one of the first anime shows that cartoon network played it was drawn like an late 80′s or early 90′s anime show.
