Transformers Armada was the series with Mini-cons. Mini-cons were a race of living batteries created by Unicron and planted on Cybertron. They augmented the powers and bought out special abilities in a Transformer when used. Some mini-cons combined into weapons or a small robot, but they left Cybertron long ago because of the war caused by their power granting abilities and to escape exploitation. By chance they crash landed on earth (like in every series), which bought the Autobots and Decepticons to come looking for them. The Dcepticons wanted their power to rule the universe, and the Autobots wanted to keep them out of Decepticon hands, even if it meant using them.
Mini-cons were a third neutral faction who were the same size as humans. On earth they were scattered throughout the planet and scanned earth vehicle modes when they were recovered by either side. The three who combined into the {small} robot Perceptor befriended three earth kids and became their partners. The main Autobots had their own mini-cons partners, as did the Decepticons, who treated theirs like tools. In the end the Mini-cons were used to destroy their master Unicron with Optimus Prime and Jetfire’s help.
