What was the gundam series called that used to show on cartoon network?

remember it was about a tournament of country’s and the japanese robot was good… but it got destroyed and that guy got a new one that was legendary or something…. i think it might be mobile suit gundam wing… but i can’t remember..

IIRC the Only ones on Cartoon Network Were G Gundam And Gundam Wing.
But as for A Tournament: That is Probably G Gundam.
As For Legendary: Domons Last Mech Was the Burning Gundam/God Gundam
Cartoon Network has shown at least the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Wing, Gundam: 08th MS Team, and G Gundam.
The only one that works around a combat tournament, and not all-out war, is G Gundam.
There are number of Gundam series and one movie that appeared on Cartoon Network:
1) Gundam Wing: This is the one that brought Gundam to the general attention of America. Lots of action, less than believable plot and characters.
2) Mobile Suit Gundam: The original series from the late ’70s. This series never played out in full, to my knowledge, on Cartoon Network. It was bumped off back in 2001 (… I remember watching it on 09/11/2001…) and played about halfway thru again a few years later. If you can get your hands on the three compilation movies, do it.
3) G-Gundam (a.k.a., Mobile Figher G Gundam): This is the series to which you refer. Pretty good… if you can get past some of the MS designs. Also, I found the character Master Asia insufferable.
4) Gundam Seed: The most recent series shown on Cartoon Network. A fair series, but way too many flashbacks. Also, Gundam series have obviously stagnated in too many respects: There is ALWAYS some guy in a mask, super lasers threatening the Earth and its forces, big objects being dropped on Earth or the moon….
There were also a few OVA series shown on Cartoon Network all set in the Universal Century (i.e., original) timeline. These are arguably the best Gundam shows you will see:
1) 0080 War in the Pocket (…awesome… a must see…)
2) 08th MS Team (…almost as good as 0080…)
3) Gundam 0083 (… pretty good, but kinda falls apart at the end…)
Finally, Cartoon Network showed the movie "Char’s Counterattack". This is a movie that a lot of Gundam fans think higher of than I ever will. It feels rushed and the ending is just ridiculous.
