For the Gundam pilots: Duo Maxwell. He is not completely nuts and is likable. Heero is a sado-masochistic mess, Trowa is a tiresome "mystery man", Quatre is an effeminate hypocrite and Wu Fei is the loud mouthed tortured soul too great for his own good.
As for other characters, Zechs is pretty interesting (’til the end) as is Treize (not necessarily evil… certainly a man of morals even if you don’t agree with him). Lady Une is openly out of her skull… and I loved it (classic disassociative identity disorder). Noin was a good character… believable and likable.
The absolute worst character was Relena. Naivete personified elevated to a position of world leadership? Not believable, not likable… just dumb. There is no precedent in history that makes this puppet and/or the Sanc Kingdom believable.
